BReIF

An e-infrastructure to accelerate the use of diverse biological resources.

Innovation in the field of agroecology relies on the ability to mobilize greater diversity within agricultural systems based on knowledge of available resources and their characterization using various high-throughput approaches. In this context, the integration of massive and heterogeneous data is recognized as a strategic challenge to provide meaning to this data.

The BReIF project aims to build a coherent e-infrastructure that supports data management in accordance with FAIR principles and Open Science, along with a sustainable data portal. To achieve its objectives:

  • Define the scope of the service and identify existing resources and necessary developments ;
  • Develop an initial version and conduct tests to obtain feedback from potential users (e.g., through hackathons or training sessions) ;
  • Make improvements based on the feedback and create a plan for sustainable deployment.

BReIF will address this issue by developing semantic approaches, such as knowledge graphs. Additionally, in complement and collaboration with the pilot project II-1, BReIF will provide new, efficient data analysis services, evaluated in terms of their carbon footprint. BReIF will create robust data processing environments for the assembly of complex heterozygous and polyploid genomes, their automatic annotation (including coding and non-coding regions), and the generation of pangenomes using state-of-the-art approaches. These services will be implemented for a selection of species of interest.
